Scandinavian countries unite in pursuit to take down Tesla's anti-union policy
Denmark's largest trade union, 3F Transport, has joined the strike action initiated by Swedish Tesla workers in a "sympathy strike" to support Swedish workers in their demand for collective bargaining rights.
The strike has been ongoing for six weeks, with support from various industries. By joining the strike, the Danish union aims to prevent dock workers and drivers from handling and transporting Tesla cars headed for Sweden, Business Insider reported.
The action comes amid speculation that Tesla might attempt to bypass Swedish dockworker strikes by delivering cars to Danish ports and transporting them by truck to Sweden.
Judging by the US carmakers' reaction to the strike so far, a negotiation does not seem to be close as CEO Elon Musk decried the secondary action at PostNord, including refusing to deliver mail to the Tesla office, as “insane” and then mounting legal action against the Swedish transport agency and the postal service over the failure to deliver license plates for new cars.
As reported earlier, the right to unionize is of great importance in Sweden, where about 90% of the entire workforce belongs to trade unions and they are covered by contracts with their employers, which standardize pay rates, insurance and pensions, among other work conditions, in each sector.
Norway's largest union for the private sector, Fellesforbundet, signaled its backing of this cause by making public that it would be prepared to block Swedish Teslas from coming to the country.
