Scientists establish that wearing hearing aids reduces dementia risk

Scientists at the National University of Singapore have proven, that hearing aids help reduce the risk of dementia by 19%.
According to Gazeta.ru, the research was published in the JAMA Neurology magazine.
The scientists have analyzed eight long-term studies of hearing-impaired adults including 137,484 participants and found that participants wearing hearing aids were 19% less likely to show signs of cognitive impairment than those who did not.
A subsequent meta-analysis of 11 publications showed that participants scored 3% more points in short-term cognitive tests after using hearing aids.
"Physicians should strongly encourage their patients with hearing loss to adopt such devices", the recommendation of the report states.
