Sevilla claims Europa League title for seventh time

Sevilla have won the Europa League final, beating Roma 4-1 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time.

Gonzalo Montiel initially missed his deciding penalty to win it for the La Liga side, but VAR spotted encroachment by Roma's keeper and the Argentine — who also scored the winning penalty in the World Cup final — sent Rui Patricio the wrong way on his second attempt to clinch the title.

The victory extends Sevilla’s Europa League record as they lift the trophy for a seventh time. In addition to winning the competition, they have also secured qualification for next season’s Champions League.
