Shootout occurs on Azerbaijani-Iranian border Violator detained
Measures to ensure reliable protection of the state border, and fight against smuggling and illicit trafficking of narcotics continue.
The press service of the State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan told Caliber.Az that on 7 July the border guards spotted two border violators at a frontier post near Bartaz village of Zangilan region. Despite the order given by the border guards to stand and the opening of warning shots in the air, the violators did not obey the order and tried to put up armed resistance.
As a result of the actions of the border guards, one was detained and 5,880 grams of marijuana was seized from him. The other intruder managed to escape.
On June 12, two suspicious bags with 22 kg 855 grams of narcotic substances (15,180 grams of marijuana, 7,175 grams of opium, 500 grams of heroin) and 1,543 pills of psychotropic substances were found on the beach near the village of Mayak in the Neftchala region.
Operational and investigative measures on the facts are continuing.
