SOCAR, bp and AIC unite for another "green" project in Karabakh Azerbaijan’s solar future
On October 2, SOCAR Green, bp and the Azerbaijan Investment Company (AIC) signed a trilateral agreement to collaborate on the construction of the Shafaq solar power plant in Jabrayil, which will have a capacity of 240 MW.
Azerbaijan's Economy Minister, Mikail Jabbarov, announced the contract on his Facebook page, Caliber.Az reports.
"Today, SOCAR Green, bp and AIC signed a contract on joint participation in the construction of the Shafaq solar power plant in Jabrayil," he stated.
This project aims to support Azerbaijan's green transition by attracting foreign direct investment, enhancing the region's energy supply through solar power, promoting economic development in Jabrayil, and reducing carbon emissions in the Caspian Sea and at the Sangachal terminal.
On October 1, the Ministry of Energy hosted a regular meeting of the Working Group focused on coordinating and monitoring the application of green technologies and energy efficiency in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan. Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov chaired the meeting and emphasized the progress made under President Ilham Aliyev's directive to establish a "green energy" zone in these regions. He reiterated the strategic goals for sustainable energy practices.
During the meeting, the group reviewed the monitoring results regarding the implementation of green technologies and energy efficiency in the liberated territories, discussing various issues to enhance energy-efficient practices in these areas.
All cities and villages in the liberated territories are designated for the exclusive use of green energy. The concept developed for solar and wind power plants in the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions ensures that electricity consumed in these areas comes solely from renewable sources, already yielding positive outcomes.
