Azerbaijan’s freight association head calls for unified digital platform for Middle Corridor

08 September 2026 12:45

There is a need to establish a single digital platform for the Middle Corridor that would not only enable cargo movements to be tracked in real time but also forecast potential delays and assess their impact on delivery times, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Association of Freight Forwarding Companies Kamran Habibov said.

Addressing the fifth Black and Caspian Freight Forum 2026 in Baku, Habibov said such a platform could bring together data on cargo movements across different sections of the Middle Corridor while accounting for factors that may affect transportation times, including weather conditions in the Caspian Sea, according to local media.

“We know that the weather can also affect the Caspian, but when it affects, we must understand how much it will affect, what the timelines will be, that is, also predict delays. In this case, this will allow clients to better plan their shipments together with freight forwarders, and this, of course, will increase trust in this corridor,” Habibov stated.

He stressed that digitalisation should become one of the key instruments for improving the efficiency of the Middle Corridor, noting that shippers need more than just information on the current location of their cargo. They also need to know in advance when their shipments are expected to reach their final destination.

According to Habibov, the ability to forecast potential disruptions would enable all participants in the transportation process to respond more quickly to changing conditions and make timely adjustments to their logistics plans.

He added that developing such digital infrastructure would require close coordination among countries and all participants in the transport chain, including railway operators, ports, maritime carriers, freight forwarders, customs authorities, and other relevant structures.
