Air traffic through Azerbaijan’s airspace increased during the summer season of 2026, with the country recording a significant rise in both overall and transit flights.

According to the press service of Heydar Aliyev International Airport, which provided the figures to Caliber.Az, Azerbaijan Air Navigation Services (AZANS) provided air navigation services to a total of 102,130 flights between June and August. The figure was 11% higher than during the same period last year.

Air traffic increased steadily throughout the summer months. AZANS provided air navigation services to 32,430 flights in June, 34,322 in July and 35,378 in August, making the final month of summer the busiest in terms of air traffic.

Transit flights recorded an even stronger increase. A total of 78,749 transit flights passed through Azerbaijan’s airspace between June and August, representing a 14.5% rise year-on-year.

The highest daily air traffic volume of the summer was recorded on August 23, when AZANS provided air navigation services to 1,210 flights within Azerbaijan’s airspace.

The peak figure for transit traffic came on August 22, when 920 transit flights crossed the country’s airspace in a single day. This was 13.4% higher than the maximum level recorded during the 2025 summer season.

The double-digit growth in transit traffic underscores the importance of Azerbaijan’s airspace to international aviation and highlights the growing role of air navigation services amid rising traffic volumes.
