Some 14,000 Indian guest workers deprive Karabakh Armenians of jobs - expert
Some 15 per cent of Armenians, who voluntarily left the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, have left Armenia, according to Prof Tatul Manaseryan of the Alternative Research Centre.
In his opinion, the outflow of Karabakh Armenians from Armenia is mainly due to difficulties with employment. The situation in the labour market is aggravated by the massive influx of labour migrants to Armenia, Caliber.Az reports.
According to Manaseryan, about 14,000 guest workers arrived in Armenia from India alone. As the expert noted, the poverty rate in Armenia has been rising for the third year in a row.
"According to official data, the poverty rate in Armenia is 42 per cent, but according to expert estimates, in Shirak region, this figure exceeds 60 per cent," Manaseryan noted.
In general, he said, the structure of Armenia's economy deteriorated in 2023.
Moreover, the production of food, beverages, and clothes has decreased. Accordingly, the export volumes of the products of these industries have also decreased, reflecting significant problems in the export sector.
