Sudan keeper risks life to secure victory at Africa Cup of Nations 2025 VIDEO
Sudan’s goalkeeper Monged Abuzaid narrowly avoided disaster during their Africa Cup of Nations clash with Equatorial Guinea in Morocco, yet still helped his side to a historic 1-0 win.
The 29-year-old lost consciousness in the first half after suffering a drop in blood sugar and collapsed in his penalty area, Besoccer reports.
Medics rushed on to attend him, allowing Abuzaid to recover and continue the match.
Sudan secured the victory thanks to an own goal from Equatorial Guinea defender Saul Coco in the 74th minute, marking the nation’s first win at the tournament in over a decade.
The result keeps Sudan’s hopes alive of reaching the knockout stages from Group E. Meanwhile, Algeria have all but secured their place in the next round after claiming a second successive victory in the group.
