Sudanese army advances toward Khartoum, tightens control over key areas PHOTO
After the Sudanese army entered Khartoum, the armed forces continue their advance towards the heart of the capital.
The army, supported by tanks, regained control of the Al Rumailah area to the west of the capital and was preparing to enter central Khartoum after linking up with military forces in the Al-Mukran region, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
In the past few hours, the army and its auxiliary forces have entered the southeastern districts of Khartoum state, advancing from the Al-Jazeera state.
Sources from the agency explained that the army forces will lay siege to the Eastern Nile region, where the Rapid Support Forces are most active, before continuing their advance toward Khartoum.
These developments on the ground come after Sudan's Sovereign Council Chairman and Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan emphasised that the army is close to a decisive victory after defeating the Rapid Support Forces.
Khartoum has been devastated by the conflict, with entire neighbourhoods emptied and occupied by fighters. The United Nations estimates that at least 3.6 million people have fled the capital, while approximately 106,000 individuals are suffering from famine conditions. An additional 3.2 million are experiencing crisis levels of hunger, according to the UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification.
The humanitarian crisis continues to worsen, with no clear end to the violence in sight.
