Sweden battles blackouts, transport disruptions after fierce storm
Tens of thousands of households in Sweden remain without electricity as the country continues to grapple with the aftermath of the powerful storm Dave, which has severely disrupted transport and energy infrastructure.
Widespread outages and transport interruptions persist despite improving weather conditions, STV reports.
Although the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has lifted its orange weather warning, the effects of the storm are ongoing. As of the morning of April 6, approximately 27,000 households were still without power.
Efforts to restore electricity have been hampered by strong winds, which continue to pose safety risks for repair crews. Energy provider Ellevio said it is unable to provide a clear timeline for full restoration.
Rail services have also been significantly affected. The Swedish Transport Administration reported that train operations in several regions have been partially or fully suspended, while track-clearing operations are delayed due to safety concerns for workers.
Forecasters warn that wind speeds may increase again later in the day, particularly in southern Sweden. At the height of the storm, wind gusts reached 39.2 metres per second, with sustained speeds averaging around 30 metres per second.
