Syrian rebels seize Abu al-Duhur airbase amid intensified battles VIDEO
On November 30, opposition Syrian factions led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham captured the Abu al-Duhur military airfield, located to the east of Idlib.
Skynews Arabia reported the development, citing a source familiar with the military operations of the rebel groups, per Caliber.Az.
In addition to the airbase, the opposition fighters also took control of the town of Masaran, which lies east of Idlib, and entered a Russian military base from which Russian troops were recently withdrawn on November 29.
Furthermore, anti-government forces seized 75 per cent of the Aleppo districts on November 30, imposing a curfew in the areas under their control.
The fierce clashes between Syrian government forces and militant groups have resulted in significant casualties. Over 200 militants were killed on Friday alone in the Aleppo and Idlib regions, according to the Russian Coordination Center in Syria. In the past two days, more than 600 terrorists have reportedly been killed.
The Russian Coordination Center also noted that Russian Air Force support has been crucial to the Syrian army's operations, contributing to the heavy losses inflicted on the militants. The Syrian military has destroyed dozens of vehicles and armoured units, killed and wounded hundreds of terrorists, and downed 17 drones in recent operations.
On November 29, the Syrian army reclaimed several positions previously breached by militants and is reinforcing its defences on multiple fronts with additional troops and equipment to prevent further incursions.
Syrian Foreign Minister Bassam Sabbagh accused the militants' attacks on Aleppo and its surroundings of aligning with the objectives of "the Israeli occupation and its supporters." He reiterated Syria's warnings about the coordination between Israeli airstrikes and the militant offensives against Syrian territory.
