Tajikistan, Qatar agree on education, economic cooperation
Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, have signed nine documents on cooperation following negotiations.
The agreements include a memorandum of cooperation in managing emergency situations, a first action program in the field of higher education and scientific research, and a cooperation program between the two countries' foreign ministries for 2024-2026, Interfax reports citing the Tajik presidential press service.
In particular, Tajikistan and Qatar identified cooperation in the education, science, and culture spheres as a key element for bolstering humanitarian ties between the two countries.
The documents also include an intergovernmental agreement on the avoidance of double taxation and prevention of income and capital tax evasion.
Taking into account investment opportunities in Tajikistan, the countries agreed to attract investment for pursuing projects in the energy, light industry, food, mining, pharmaceutical, transport, agriculture, and tourism sectors, it said.
The two countries also considered launching common transport and transit projects to expand logistical links in order to facilitate cargo and passenger transportation and transit.
