Transit cargo shipment volume grows Baku Port PHOTO

17 August 2022 15:22

The volume of cargo attracted to the Port of Baku is growing dynamically thanks to its technical and cutting-edge logistics capabilities.

If in the first half of 2021 more than 576,000 tonnes of bulk cargo were transported through the port, then in the first half of 2022 this figure exceeded 666,000 tonnes, showing an increase of 15.7 per cent, Caliber.Az reports, citing the port’s press service.

In addition, while 28,436 tonnes of dry cargo were transported through the port of Baku in 2018, 133,953 tonnes in 2019, and 253,853 tonnes in 2020, then in 2021 this number rose to 347,450 tonnes. A comparison of statistical indicators for 2018 and 2021 shows a growth of more than 12 times.

The main part of the bulk cargo transported through the port of Baku is mineral fertilizers from the countries of Central Asia to Georgia, Türkiye and several European countries.

At the same time, a fertilizer terminal with a capacity of 2.5 million tonnes is currently being built in the Baku port, with the start of which a significant increase in the volume of mineral fertilizers transported in transit through Azerbaijan is predicted.
