Italy tops list of buyers of Azerbaijani oil in early 2026
Italy remained the largest importer of Azerbaijani crude oil in January–April 2026, according to State Customs Committee data.
Azerbaijan exported 4,766,277.87 tonnes of oil to Italy during the four-month period, marking an increase of 8.6% compared with the same period in 2025. In value terms, exports to Italy rose by 3.4% to $2.53 billion, Caliber.Az reports.
Romania ranked second, importing 461,317.25 tonnes of Azerbaijani oil, a decline of 7.8% year-on-year, valued at $247.8 million, down 11.5%.
The Czech Republic came third with 433,064.35 tonnes, down 22.5%, worth $245.7 million, a decrease of 19.3%.
Other key destinations included Greece (284,374.74 tonnes), Bulgaria (277,990.61 tonnes), Portugal (319,393.36 tonnes), Croatia (276,342.95 tonnes), Germany (270,476 tonnes), Thailand (137,360.18 tonnes), and Tunisia (183,708.58 tonnes).
Overall, Azerbaijan exported 7.92 million tonnes of oil in January–April 2026, a 3.4% decrease compared with the same period in 2025, with total export value standing at $4.37 billion, down 4.3%.
Full-year data for 2025 showed Azerbaijan exported 23.38 million tonnes of oil to 22 countries, a 0.9% decline compared with 2024, while export value fell 16.3% to $12.09 billion.
