Trump claims US successfully mediated end to Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict
US President Donald Trump announced that Washington had succeeded in resolving the decades-long conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, marking what he described as a major diplomatic achievement for his administration.
Speaking at a press conference, Trump stated that the dispute, which had persisted for 37 years, had finally been settled through American mediation, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The US president noted that both Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders had expressed surprise, reportedly telling him they had “never thought the issue could be resolved.” Trump highlighted that while Russia had made repeated attempts to mediate a settlement in the past, it had failed to produce lasting results.
He described the situation as “very difficult,” but emphasised that the United States had ultimately succeeded where others had not.
Trump’s comments come in the wake of recent diplomatic engagements involving the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan, including a trilateral meeting hosted in Washington. The agreement is being hailed as a breakthrough in the South Caucasus region, following years of military confrontation and strained relations between Baku and Yerevan.
