Turkish FM inspects Rafah checkpoint in Egypt, calls for global action on Gaza

05 August 2024 09:33

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is currently on an official visit to Egypt, where he joined Egyptian authorities in inspecting the ongoing works at the El-Arish port and the Rafah border checkpoint.

Fidan shared details of his visit on his social media platform X, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.

"Türkiye is the country providing the most humanitarian aid to Gaza. However, our goal here is not to talk about Türkiye's aid, but to draw the world's attention to the genocide in Gaza," he wrote.

The minister expressed strong condemnation of Israel’s actions in Gaza, emphasizing the severe humanitarian crisis.

"Israel's closing of the border gates, attacks on humanitarian aid convoys, massacres of aid workers, preventing the evacuation of patients and civilians, rotting thousands of truckloads of humanitarian supplies - this is a crime against humanity and the first stage of the genocide it is carrying out on the other side of the border," Fidan stated.

He urged the international community to break its silence and take action against the ongoing brutality. "The world must stop remaining silent about this brutality by the Israeli administration and make more efforts to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted delivery of aid to Gaza," he urged.

Fidan reaffirmed Türkiye's unwavering support for the Palestinian people.

"Türkiye, its state, citizens, and non-governmental organisations, will support our Palestinian brothers and sisters to the end and continue to duly fulfil their moral and humanitarian duty," the minister added.
