Turkish FM urges Iran, US to reach lasting ceasefire, Hormuz reopening
Türkiye has called for a sustainable ceasefire and the restoration of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz as negotiations between the United States and Iran enter what officials describe as a decisive phase.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Austria with Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stressed the importance of achieving long-term stability rather than short-term arrangement, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
“It is extremely important that both sides act with the intention of achieving not a temporary but a permanent ceasefire and peace, as well as opening the Strait of Hormuz,” Fidan said.
Fidan noted that the current stage of talks is crucial in shaping the positions of both Washington and Tehran, but cautioned that key technical and political issues remain unresolved.
He also highlighted the role of Pakistan as a mediator in the discussions, expressing confidence in its efforts to facilitate dialogue. Türkiye, he added, will continue to support the negotiation process.
