Turkish minister: Israel’s military operation in Iran poses regional risk

Turkish Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler has emphasised that Türkiye remains on high alert amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran, and is prepared for any unfavourable scenarios.

Speaking to journalists in Malatya, Güler highlighted Türkiye’s strategic location in a region that has historically been at the heart of critical global developments, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.

“Our geographical position offers us significant strategic advantages, but it also exposes us to constant, multidimensional risks and threats right at our borders. The events of recent days have once again underscored a vital truth: we must pursue a proactive security policy and work to neutralise potential risks before they materialise,” he stated.

Güler warned that Israel’s military actions in Iran risk plunging the region into deeper chaos. 

“This escalation is unfolding in a context already marked by high tension in the Middle East — due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza and continued instability in Syria,” he noted.

The defence minister stressed that the ministry continues maintaining a state of heightened readiness in response to the situation, taking all necessary precautionary measures. 

“We are fully prepared for any negative developments and are continuously refining our operational readiness. We are fully aware of our responsibility to the Turkish people,” he said. Güler also pointed out Türkiye’s active role in promoting peace and stability across various regions.

“From the South Caucasus to the Black Sea, from the Middle East to Africa, and from the Balkans to the Mediterranean — Türkiye continues leading key initiatives aimed at fostering peace and regional stability. These efforts have significantly raised our country’s international profile and strengthened its role as an indispensable member of the global security architecture,” he declared.

He went on to highlight Türkiye’s strides in advancing its domestic defence industry. 

“I can say with pride and confidence that, thanks to major investments in recent years, Türkiye has emerged as a rising global player in defence. Our accomplishments clearly demonstrate our commitment to safeguarding our nation through the most effective means possible,” Güler added.
