Turkish president gives name to homegrown combat aircraft PHOTO

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced the official name of the national combat aircraft.

"Right now, we have our Hürjet and KAAN in front of us. Good luck to our country," TRT Haber quotes Erdogan as saying.

The military aircraft is said to be called KAAN.

The Turkish fighter jet will make its first flight by the end of 2023.

The president noted that in recent years many large defence projects have been implemented in Türkiye, and in recent weeks the Altay tank, the flagship of the Navy - the landing ship TCG Anadolu, and GÖKBEY helicopters have been presented.

“Thanks to 20 years of efforts, Türkiye's import substitution rate in the defence sector has reached 80 per cent. However, we are not going to stop there. New initiatives will follow,” Erdogan assured.
