Georgia moves to bar specific people from political activity

The Georgian Parliament has approved, in the first reading, a package of amendments that targets specific individuals.

The amendments would bar them from engaging in political activities in the country, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media.

Alongside the dissolution of a political party, associated individuals would be prohibited from creating a new party, serving as its leader or member, or making donations to other parties.

A plaintiff may request the Constitutional Court to ban a particular individual from holding a leadership position in the state or political institutions.

Failure to comply with the court’s decision carries a minimum fine of 5,000 lari ($1,800).
