Türkiye anticipates Baku-Yerevan peace treaty to be signed in first half of 2026
Türkiye expects that a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia will be concluded in the first half of 2026, according to Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
He made the statement during a conference at the Institute of International Relations in Rome, where current international developments were discussed, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
Fidan expressed gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and US President Donald Trump for their role in initialling the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington. He emphasised that Türkiye expects the final treaty to be signed in the coming months, noting: “As soon as the agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan is finally concluded, we will quickly normalise relations with Armenia.”
The Washington summit on August 8, 2025, hosted by US President Donald Trump, brought together Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. During the meeting, the leaders signed a joint declaration setting out a seven-point framework centred on respect for sovereignty, recognition of territorial integrity, and the renunciation of force.
In addition, the foreign ministers of both countries initialled a draft document entitled the “Agreement on Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations,” in the presence of Trump, Aliyev, and Pashinyan.
One of the key elements of the agreement is the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP), also referred to as the Zangezur Corridor — a planned transit link through southern Armenia connecting mainland Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave.
