Türkiye braces for thorough test of indigenous Altay main battle tank PHOTO
Before the start of mass production of the Turkish Altay tank, tests will be carried out according to six thousand different criteria.
The process of testing the tank, two prototypes of which have already been handed over to the Turkish Armed Forces, is scheduled to be completed by mid-2024, said on April 29 the CEO of BMC Savunma defence manufacturer Mehmet Karaaslan in an interview with Anadolu during the TEKNOFEST Aerospace and Technology Festival in Istanbul.
According to him, based on the results of the tender for the serial production of the domestic tank, it is planned to begin full-scale production with the possible roll-out of the first batch within 18 months.
Karaaslan noted that 450 specialists were involved in the project of the modernised Altay tank.
He said that a modification of the tank with a turret without a crew is also being developed, which will minimize damage from air strikes, including from UAVs.
