Simonyan: Armenia, Azerbaijan to form single goods market for trade
Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan has said that Armenia and Azerbaijan will eventually share a common market for goods.
Speaking at a briefing, Simonyan stressed that opening communications between the two countries was a top priority and that economic cooperation was inevitable, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
He noted that while many Armenians were still reluctant to see Azerbaijani border guards, such sensitivities would diminish over time. According to him, Armenians and Azerbaijanis already conduct business together abroad, particularly in Moscow, and often maintain personal ties such as friendships and family celebrations.
"Yes, there is tension, and the wounds are fresh on both our side and theirs. Didn't we kill people, didn't people die on the Azerbaijani side?" Simonyan asked.
Nevertheless, he underlined that establishing trade relations would benefit both nations.
“Armenians and Azerbaijanis will trade with each other, we will have a single Armenian-Azerbaijani market for goods. Our shops will sell Azerbaijani goods, and Armenian goods will be sold in shops in Baku and other cities. This is inevitable,” he said.
