Scholars convene in Almaty to chronicle Turkic nations’ history in written record
Academics from Turkic countries have gathered in Almaty for the second working meeting dedicated to preparing a unified academic work on the history of Turkic countries.
The event was organized by the Turkic Academy and held at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) in Almaty, Caliber.Az reports citing AZERTAG.
The Turkic Academy has been established under the aegis of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) to facilitate and encourage scientific and educational cooperation among Turkic countries and communities. It is being headed by the renowned Azerbaijani scholar Shahin Mustafayev.
In the course of the event, he emphasized the importance of uniting the efforts of scholars to create a foundational work that will allow for a systematic and objective presentation of the rich historical heritage of Turkic peoples.
The proposal to generate a written record encapsulating the common history of Turkic countries was brought forward during the 11th OTS Summit in Bishkek in 2024.
The first working meeting within the framework of this project took place in February of this year in Ankara. At that time, the general outline and concept for the future work were reviewed, the decision was made to prepare a two-volume edition, and national commissions from each participating country were formed.
Participants of the second meeting discussed in further detail the structure of the forthcoming monograph, exchanged proposals, and agreed on the composition of working groups for individual sections.
Among the attendees of the event were the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Rector Zhansseit Tuymenbayev, Chairman of the Turkish Historical Society Yüksel Özgen, Member of the Council of Elders of the OTS Ikram Adyrbekov, as well as directors of history and archaeology institutes from other OTS member and observer states, leading scholars, and experts.
