Three arrested after clashes erupt near Tbilisi mayoral campaign office
Georgian authorities have detained three individuals in connection with violent confrontations that occurred outside the campaign office of Kakha Kaladze, the ruling Georgian Dream party’s candidate for mayor of Tbilisi.
Two supporters of the ruling party and one anti-government protester were taken into custody following the escalation of daily protests held on Melikishvili Avenue on September 8–9, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
Kaladze’s campaign office, which officially opened on September 3, has since become a focal point for political tensions in the capital. Protesters opposing the current government have gathered outside the premises each evening, while Georgian Dream supporters have occupied the building. On the nights of September 8 and 9, demonstrations spiraled into direct clashes between opposing groups, prompting police intervention to restore order.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs identified the detainees as 22-year-old Irakli Buachidze and 60-year-old Zaza Mamaladze, who were arrested on charges of participating in group violence. A third individual, 23-year-old Irma Diasamidze, was detained on suspicion of damaging or destroying property.
Authorities have confirmed that the investigation remains active, with law enforcement continuing search operations to identify additional suspects involved in the unrest. The ministry emphasized its commitment to ensuring accountability for any acts of violence or property damage associated with the protests.
