Young woman in Russia arrested for terrorism attempt, may face life sentence, lawyer says Photo
An 18-year-old woman in Russia's Stavropol is facing up to 20 years in prison, with the possibility of life imprisonment, after being detained for her involvement in a failed terrorist attack.
She has been charged with attempting to plant explosives on a car at a military facility, a crime that could result in 10 to 20 years in prison, or even life imprisonment in the most serious cases, according to her lawyer, Mikhail Pirogov, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Pirogov noted that if there are mitigating circumstances, such as the crime not being completed, the sentence might be reduced, but the punishment would still be significant.
Earlier, Russian authorities reported that they had successfully thwarted an attempted sabotage plot. The 18-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly attempting to plant explosives on a car belonging to a Russian officer. Authorities claim that she was influenced by fraudsters allegedly connected to Ukrainian special services.
