Türkiye's opposition demands convening of parliament over military deaths in Iraq
Türkiye's leading opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) has demanded an immediate closed session of parliament in connection with the deaths of 12 servicemen in northern Iraq as a result of attacks by militants of the terrorist group PKK.
The CHP considers it necessary to invite Defense Minister Yasar Guler to this meeting to get full information about the situation in northern Iraq and Syria, as well as the measures to be taken to completely eliminate the PKK militants in the neighbouring territories, Report informs, citing Sozcu TV channel.
The HDP proposes to declare nationwide mourning in Türkiye over the deaths of the military.
According to the Defense Ministry, on December 22 and 23, the Turkish military was attacked twice in northern Iraq, 12 were killed, 2 wounded. Immediately afterward, the army launched massive strikes on PKK hideouts, caves, infrastructure and oil facilities in northern Iraq and Syria. Twenty-nine facilities were destroyed and 25 militants were eliminated, Guler said.
"The PKK has suffered significant losses and lost manoeuvring capabilities. Our operations will continue until the last terrorist in this region is eliminated," the minister assured.
