TURKPA: South Caucasus emerging as key transport corridor
The South Caucasus is becoming an increasingly attractive platform for major regional infrastructure projects that could serve as a common transport corridor linking Europe and Asia, according to Ramil Hasan, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA).
Speaking at the 67th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organisation (PABSEC) in Georgia, Hasan said the region is entering a new phase of development driven by improving regional relations, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
He said efforts to strengthen ties among Azerbaijan, Armenia and Türkiye would help transform the Black Sea and Caspian Sea regions into areas of peace while boosting economic prosperity and energy security.
"The South Caucasus region is turning into a favourable platform for the implementation of large-scale projects that could serve as a common transport corridor," Hasan said.
He stressed that the successful implementation of such initiatives would require stronger parliamentary diplomacy and closer cooperation among national legislatures and regional parliamentary organisations.
Hasan also highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation between TURKPA and PABSEC to support regional integration and development.
Addressing technological challenges, he said artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly influential worldwide and called on lawmakers in TURKPA and PABSEC member states to update legislation to maximise the benefits of AI for interstate cooperation and public welfare.
