US to provide India with anti-submarine sonobuoys worth over $50 million

The US Department of Defense will supply the Indian Navy with a batch of anti-submarine sonobuoys (HAASW) valued at $52.8 million to enhance their submarine detection capabilities.

This upcoming sale is set to support US foreign policy and security objectives, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

The delivery of these sonobuoys is intended to strengthen strategic relations between the United States and India, contributing to the security of India—a major defence partner that continues to play a crucial role in maintaining political stability, peace, and economic stability in the Indo-Pacific region and South Asia.

According to the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), a division of the Pentagon, which emphasized the importance of this sale in fortifying ties between the two countries.

The US will supply the Indian Navy with anti-submarine sonobuoys of three different types, along with documentation, technical support, and logistical assistance. The estimated cost of the contract is $52.8 million. The anti-submarine systems are designed to be compatible with the American-made MH-60R helicopters, which have been previously delivered to India.
