UEFA to consider suspending Israel from all football competitions
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is set to vote on September 23 on suspending Israel from all football tournaments, Israel Hayom reports.
Israeli officials are reportedly attempting to prevent the issue from being brought to a vote, as a majority of European countries are expected to support the suspension.
If the vote proceeds, Israel’s national team could be barred from the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, and Tel Aviv’s Maccabi club would be excluded from the Europa League.
The Israel Hayom stated writes that Israel Football Association (IFA) was working around the clock and recruiting allies and friends of Israel in the sports and diplomatic worlds to work to prevent the vote,
Israel’s national team is currently competing in a UEFA-organized qualifying tournament for next year’s FIFA World Cup. And Israeli team Maccabi Tel Aviv is set to compete in the upcoming season’s UEFA Europa League, with the first match set for this coming Wednesday against Greece’s PAOK FC.
