UFC secures long-term deal to host annual fight nights in Baku

21 April 2026 16:09

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has signed a long-term partnership agreement with Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Baku City Circuit operating company, paving the way for annual UFC Fight Night events in Baku through 2028.

According to the agreement, the Azerbaijani capital will continue to host high-profile mixed martial arts events each year, with the first bout under the new deal scheduled for June 27 at the National Gymnastics Arena, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media

The announcement follows the UFC’s successful debut event in Baku last June, held at the Baku Crystal Hall, which drew more than 14,000 spectators. The event sold out completely, underscoring strong regional interest in mixed martial arts.

UFC President and CEO Dana White discussed future cooperation during a meeting in Las Vegas with Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Farid Gayibov. White praised Baku as a premier destination for international sport, highlighting both the city’s appeal and the enthusiasm of local fans.

“It’s an incredibly beautiful city with hospitable people. I was truly impressed during my previous visit. The local fans show a huge interest in the sport and know their stuff,” White said, adding that the atmosphere in Baku makes it “a must-see” location for the UFC.

Minister Gayibov said the extended partnership reflects Azerbaijan’s growing status as a global sports hub. He pointed to the country’s experience hosting major international events, including the European Games and Formula 1 races, as a strong foundation for further expanding mixed martial arts in the region. He also stressed that the UFC’s presence in Baku creates new opportunities for Azerbaijani athletes to compete on home soil at the highest level.

Magsud Farzullaev, CEO of Baku City Circuit, said the organisation was pleased to continue and expand its cooperation with the UFC following last year’s successful debut. He noted expectations of even greater international interest and increased visitor numbers for upcoming events, expressing confidence in the continued success of the partnership.
