In relation to this, the Turkish Ministry of National Defence (MND) has sent a “Requirements Definition Document” to the UK Ministry of Defence and BAE Systems.
The proposal, which has been eagerly awaited, has now been prepared by BAE Systems and delivered to Turkey’s Ministry of National Defence. The ministry has initiated the process of reviewing the proposal for the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets.
In a related development, British Defence Secretary John Healey arrived in Ankara at the invitation of Türkiye's National Defence Minister Yaşar Güler. The two officials are expected to discuss, among other topics, the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war and the proposed purchase of the Eurofighter Typhoon jets.
Reports indicate that the Turkish Ministry of Defense will first review the proposal with the involvement of an integrated delegation. After this review, Minister Güler will make a final decision regarding the aircraft and ammunition options included in the procurement package. If necessary, Turkey will request revisions to the proposal.

Türkiye plans to acquire a total of 40 Eurofighter Typhoon Tranche 4 fighters in a 20+20 unit arrangement. These Tranche 4 aircraft, which represent the most advanced configuration of the Typhoon for aerial combat, will be remanufactured. However, Türkiye may also consider purchasing a small number of used Typhoon jets for training purposes, which is still under consideration.
Additionally, Türkiye has made it a condition for the UK to include Meteor air-to-air missiles in the deal alongside the aircraft. Although Germany initially blocked the sale of these missiles, it is now understood that Germany has withdrawn its objections following diplomatic negotiations.
Meanwhile, Greece has made efforts to prevent the sale of the Meteor missiles through discussions with both France and the UK, although both parties have remained silent on Greece's concerns.
The total cost of purchasing the 40 Typhoon aircraft from the fourth tranche is expected to be at least 5 billion euros.
