UK, France take step towards peace plan to end Ukraine conflict, PM Starmer says
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has revealed that the UK, along with France, and “possibly one or two others,” will collaborate with Ukraine to create a peace plan aimed at ending the ongoing conflict.
Starmer confirmed that discussions had been held with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and French President Emmanuel Macron, culminating in an agreement to work together on a strategy to halt the war, Caliber.Az reports via UK media.
He emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that after three years of bloody conflict, a lasting peace must be found.
"We have to find a way that we can all work together. Because, in the end, we’ve had three years of bloody conflict. Now we need to get to that lasting peace," he said.
The peace plan, developed in coordination with France and potentially other European partners, will be presented to the United States for further discussion and support.
"The United Kingdom, along with France and possibly one or two others, will work with Ukraine on a plan to stop the fighting, and then we’ll discuss that plan with the United States," Starmer stated.
In his remarks, Starmer expressed cautious optimism, asserting that the agreement marked “a step in the right direction.”
The international community’s unified approach to addressing the war in Ukraine could pave the way for diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the devastating conflict.
