UK relaxes sanctions regime on Russian-linked fuel flows
The British government has introduced an exemption to its sanctions regime against Russia, allowing the import of diesel and aviation fuel produced from Russian crude oil in third countries.
According to Sky News, the measure takes effect on Wednesday, May 20, and is linked to concerns over fuel supply stability amid disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz following the outbreak of conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran.
The issued license permits imports for an indefinite period but will be subject to regular review by UK authorities, the report added.
Previously, in October last year, the United Kingdom banned the import of petroleum products produced abroad from Russian oil as part of efforts to increase pressure on Moscow.
