Ukraine claims attacks on Russian defence infrastructure
Ukraine’s General Staff said its forces carried out a series of strikes targeting key military-industrial and energy facilities in Russia, as well as military assets in occupied Ukrainian territories.
In a statement, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that “as part of reducing the military-economic potential of the Russian aggressor, on the night of May 5, units of the Defence Forces of Ukraine struck the VNIIR-Progress plant (Cheboksary, Chuvash Republic, Russian Federation).”
The statement noted that the VNIIR-Progress facility produces GNSS receivers and antennas for satellite navigation systems, including GLONASS, GPS and Galileo. It specifically manufactures adaptive antenna arrays, “Kometa,” which are used in Shahed-type kamikaze drones, as well as in cruise and ballistic missiles, unified planning and correction modules (UMPK) for aerial bombs, and other precision-guided weapons used by Russian forces in strikes on Ukraine, including against civilian infrastructure.
According to the General Staff, Ukrainian forces also struck infrastructure at the Kirishi oil refinery in Russia’s Leningrad region, where a fire broke out following the attack. The targeted enterprises are described as being involved in supporting the Russian military, while the extent of the damage remains under assessment.
The statement added that over the previous 24 hours, Ukrainian forces also hit a field depot of fuel and lubricants near Vedmezhe in the temporarily occupied Luhansk region, a command and observation post in Smelye, and a “Kasta” radar station in Yelyseivka in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In addition, a logistics warehouse on the outskirts of Donetsk was struck, the General Staff said.
