Ukraine eyes diplomatic break with Iran over missile transfers
Ukraine may sever diplomatic relations with Iran if confirmed reports show Tehran transferred ballistic missiles to Russia and they have been used in the ongoing conflict.
This was announced by Georgy Tikhiy, spokesperson for Ukraine's Foreign Ministry, during a briefing, where the Ministry reiterated its strong stance that such a move by Iran would have significant consequences for their diplomatic relations, Caliber.Az reports.
The spokesperson emphasized that this warning remains in effect.
"I will not disclose specific measures so as not to undermine our diplomatic position, but all options, including severing diplomatic relations, remain on the table. Should the transfer of missiles be confirmed and their use recorded, Ukraine will take appropriate steps," the official said.
Several major reports, including from US-based news sources, indicate that Iran may have transferred short-range ballistic missiles to Russia, with speculation that more than 200 missiles, including Fath-300 models, may have been involved. These missiles are capable of striking targets up to 112 kilometres away.
Despite these claims, Iran’s UN mission has denied any missile transfer, maintaining that Iran’s position on the Ukraine conflict is one of neutrality and non-involvement, urging other nations to refrain from supplying arms to either side of the conflict.
