Ukraine intercepts over 120 Russian drones in overnight attacks
Ukrainian air defence forces shot down or intercepted more than 120 Russian drones and decoys during an overnight wave of attacks on September 5, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said.
The strikes targeted northern and eastern regions of the country, though Ukrainian forces said most of the incoming drones were intercepted before reaching their targets, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
The attack involved 157 Shahed strike drones, additional decoy unmanned aerial vehicles, six S-300 surface-to-air guided missiles, and one Kh-59 guided air missile, launched from Russian regions including Kursk, Bryansk, Millerovo, Oryol, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and from Hvardiiske in temporarily occupied Crimea.
According to Ukrainian officials, aviation units, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups played a key role in repelling the assault. Despite these defences, seven missiles and 35 strike drones reportedly hit ten locations, and one more enemy drone remained airborne as of 9:00 a.m. Kyiv time.
