Ukraine suspends justice minister amid anti-corruption operation
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has decided to suspend Herman Halushchenko from his duties as Minister of Justice.
The decision was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko via Telegram, Caliber.Az reports.
She wrote: “This morning, we held an extraordinary government meeting. A decision was made to suspend Herman Halushchenko from performing the duties of Minister of Justice.”
According to Svyrydenko, the responsibilities of the justice minister have been temporarily assigned to Deputy Minister for European Integration Lyudmyla Suhak.
The move follows a large-scale anti-corruption operation in Ukraine’s energy sector carried out by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP). Reports indicate that searches were conducted at Minister Halushchenko’s offices as part of the operation.
