UN General Assembly president calls Armenia to fulfill its obligations PHOTO
The President-elect of the 78th UN General Assembly has called on Armenia to fulfil its obligations under relevant international law.
Dennis Francis voiced his concern over the mine threat created by Armenia in the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan, Report informs.
“International law specifies that certain types of weapons should not be used in conflicts. I call on Armenia to fulfil its obligations under relevant international law,” Francis said.
Francis was informed about Azerbaijan's facing a humanitarian catastrophe due to the Armenian side's refusal to provide accurate maps of minefields.
It was noted that the Garabagh region is one of the most mine-polluted regions in the world as, during the 30-year period of occupation of Azerbaijani lands, Armenia installed about a million mines there.
Since November 2020, mine explosions have killed and injured more than 300 Azerbaijanis, including two journalists and four police officers.
