UNESCO inscribes Azerbaijan’s "zorkhana" wrestling on Intangible Heritage List

Azerbaijan’s “Pehlevanliq” culture: traditional wrestling games and sports known as “zorkhana” has been inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Heritage List.

The nomination initiated by Azerbaijan was adopted at the 17th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, Report informs.

“Congratulations, Azerbaijan. Pehlevanlig culture: traditional zorkhana games, sports and wrestling have been inscribed on the Intangible Heritage List. This culture refers to a variety of traditional physical performances practiced and transmitted from generation to generation by athletes,” according to the message of the Permanent Delegation of Azerbaijan to UNESCO on Twitter.
