US Congress vows sanctions on countries refusing to accept deported residents
The US Congress is prepared to impose sanctions on countries that do not comply with the Trump administration's directives regarding the deportation of undocumented immigrants, US House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson has warned.
In a recent post on X, he emphasised that Congress is ready to impose sanctions and other measures against countries that fail to accept their citizens illegally residing in the United States, Caliber.Az reports.
“Colombia and all nations should be on notice - Congress is fully prepared to pass sanctions and other measures against those that do not fully cooperate or follow through on requirements to accept their citizens who are illegally in the United States,” the post said.
Johnson reiterated President Trump's "America First" agenda, asserting that Congress will enact policies to reinforce this approach.
Since taking office on January 20, President Donald Trump has issued numerous immigration-related executive orders aimed at intensifying the crackdown on undocumented migrants in the US. With over 21 actions, Trump has initiated significant changes to the immigration system, including alterations to how migrants are processed and deported.
