US envoy Witkoff postpones Türkiye visit meant for talks with Zelenskyy
The U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, who was expected to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Türkiye today, November 19, has postponed his scheduled visit.
Ukrainian and American officials confirmed the postponement to Axios.
Meanwhile, the Italian news outlet ANSA writes that Witkoff has already held preliminary discussions on a new plan to resolve the ongoing war in Ukraine. Earlier this week in Miami, he discussed the initiative with Ukraine’s National Security Adviser Rustem Umerov.
The outlet also says Witkoff’s proposal consists of a 28-point plan that the United States is also discussing with representatives of Russia. The document addresses an end to the war against Ukraine, mechanisms for future security guarantees, the broader architecture of European security, and the prospects for future U.S.–Russia relations.
No further details of the initiative have yet been disclosed.
Earlier today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Türkiye for a series of high-level meetings aimed at accelerating efforts to end the war, resume prisoner exchanges, and secure the return of Ukrainian captives. The Ukrainian president emphasised that Kyiv has prepared proposals to present to its partners, with a focus on speeding up the end of the conflict and addressing humanitarian issues.
