US leader’s advisers discuss potential exit strategy amid growing concerns

19 July 2024 13:50

US President Joe Biden hasn't decided to withdraw from the race yet, despite three weeks of asserting that hardly anything would force him out.

Several individuals close to President Biden mentioned they believe he is starting to acknowledge the possibility that he might not be able to win in November and might have to exit the race, yielding to the increasing pressures from numerous concerned members of his party, Caliber.Az reports citing the foreign media.

The president has not yet decided to withdraw from the race, despite three weeks of asserting that almost nothing could push him out. However, another person mentioned that "reality is setting in," suggesting it wouldn't be surprising if Mr. Biden soon announced his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.

Discussions among Mr. Biden's advisers have progressed to the extent that they are considering the best timing and other details for an announcement if the president chooses to abandon his bid for a second term.

This account is based on interviews with five people close to the president, who all described the situation as extremely delicate and spoke on the condition of anonymity to avoid offending him.

The US presidential election is scheduled for November 5, 2024. This election will determine the next President and Vice President of the United States, as well as the composition of Congress, including all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 34 of the 100 seats in the Senate.

The election is expected to be highly competitive, with key issues such as the economy, healthcare, immigration, climate change, and national security playing pivotal roles in the campaigns.

Voter turnout and engagement are anticipated to be high, reflecting the polarized political climate in the country. The outcome of the 2024 election will shape the direction of US policy and governance for the next four years.
