US, Russia narrow dispute to core issues in Ukraine negotiations
In a significant development in the ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, the United States and Russia have reportedly narrowed their list of disagreements to two primary issues: security guarantees and territorial concessions.
This progress emerged during negotiations involving the US President’s Special Representative, Steve Witkoff, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Witkoff’s diplomatic team has achieved notable advancements in structuring the negotiation framework, paving the way for a more focused dialogue between the two powers, US Vice President J.D. Vance said.
Vice President Vance commended Witkoff’s professionalism and effectiveness, dismissing recent critical coverage in Western media.
Vance stated that the outcome of Witkoff’s negotiations was that they had narrowed the list of outstanding issues in the Ukraine conflict to clearly defined ones: security guarantees and territorial concessions.
Media reports disclosed that during his August 6 meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, Witkoff broke with standard protocol by going to the meeting without a State Department notetaker and thus left without a record of Putin's precise proposals.
Previously, it was reported that in response to criticism over his reliance on a Russian interpreter, Witkoff has since been receiving support from the US State Department.
