Uzbek chess player wins Vugar Hashimov Memorial-2022 in Azerbaijan
Uzbek chess player Nodirbek Abdusattorov has become the winner of the 8th International Super Tournament in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku.
The competition was dedicated to the memory of outstanding chess player, European champion, international grandmaster Vugar Hashimov.
Four rounds before the end of the blitz chess competition, the Uzbek chess player’s victory was guaranteed. Abdusattorov scored 23.5 points. His rivals - Richard Rapport (Romania) and Rauf Mammadov (Azerbaijan) scored 18 points each, according to АZERTAG.
The chess players will compete in four more rounds.
The Vugar Gashimov Memorial was first held in Shamkir in 2014. Reigning world chess champion Magnus Carlsen won the tournament four times (2014, 2015, 2018, 2019), Azerbaijani chess player Shahriyar Mammadyarov - twice (2016, 2017), US representative Fabiano Caruana - once (2021).
