Western Azerbaijan Community calls on Armenia to create conditions for safe return of Azerbaijanis
The Western Azerbaijan Community has called on the Armenian government to create conditions for safe return of Azerbaijanis expelled from their ancestral lands.
The topic of Western Azerbaijan entered the agenda following the ethnic cleansing policy pursued by the Armenian government, Reports informs citing the the community.
With its March 18 statement, the Armenian foreign ministry made another attempt to undermine the right for the return of Azerbaijanis expelled from this country to return.
“First of all, we would like to emphasize that the topic of Western Azerbaijan, which is a human rights issue, has come to agenda as a result of the policy of ethnic cleansing of the Armenian government and the refusal to address the consequences of this policy. Our organization was founded in 1989 and since then we have consistently fought for the realization of our right to return. Everyone knows that Armenia is a mono-ethnic country. Armenians, who until recently were a minority in the area, now make up over 99 per cent of the population. We emphasize once again that we are legal residents of the territory called Armenia, and it is our absolute right to return to our homes. Armenia, regardless of the nature of relations with Azerbaijan, must create conditions for the return of residents expelled from its territory.”
The community called on the Armenian government to put an end to the illegal settlement policy carried out in the settlements where Azerbaijanis lived, the destruction of our cultural heritage.
“We once again call on the Armenian government to create conditions for the peaceful, safe and dignified return of Azerbaijanis who are legal residents of this territory.”
