Western Azerbaijan Community urges EP to support return of 300,000 expelled Azerbaijanis Slams some MEPs for discrimination
The Western Azerbaijan Community has issued a strong statement accusing certain members of the European Parliament for slandering Azerbaijan and interfering in its internal affairs under the guise of protecting cultural heritage.
“A group of corrupt and racist members of the European Parliament, under the pretext of protecting cultural heritage, slandered Azerbaijan and tried to interfere in its internal affairs,” Report quotes the Community as saying in the statement.
“In their appeals, the parliamentarians, instead of using universal terms such as "world cultural heritage", which includes the heritage of all peoples, used religiously discriminative expressions, and spoke exclusively about the Armenian heritage.
“Everyone knows that Armenia, on its territory and the territories of Azerbaijan, which it once occupied, systematically and massively destroyed the cultural heritage belonging to the Azerbaijanis. On the territory of Armenia, 300 mosques, hundreds of cemeteries, and many other cultural monuments were razed to the ground. Armenia does not allow a UNESCO mission to visit these places to monitor the state of Azerbaijani cultural heritage.
Instead of denigrating Azerbaijan and inciting religious strife, members of the European Parliament, who are showing hypocrisy, should make efforts for a UNESCO mission to visit Armenia, stop the destruction of monuments of Azerbaijani cultural heritage in this territory and restore the destroyed ones, and most importantly, support the return to their homeland 300,000 of Western Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia,” the document notes.
