WP: Ukraine’s defence industry emerges as key supplier for western militaries
Ukraine’s weapons industry could eventually supply U.S. and European forces with advanced drones and other military technologies being developed amid the ongoing war with Russia, the recent article by The Washington Post notes.
One breakthrough is the R-34 quadcopter drone, which can evade Russian jamming, fly over 20 kilometers, and carry six kilograms of guided explosives.
Developers like FRDM integrate battlefield feedback in real time, enabling drones to account for nearly 70% of Russian losses near the front line.
Ukrainian defence firms are also upgrading armoured vehicles. Ukr Armo Tech’s Gurza series now incorporates battlefield-tested designs to withstand drone strikes and improve soldier safety. The company produced 500 vehicles last year and plans to triple production this year.
European governments are financing production through joint ventures, with Denmark, Britain, Sweden, and Germany among the backers.
Officials say rapid innovation and low-cost, battle-tested systems make Ukraine a vital partner in modern warfare, allowing it to reduce reliance on foreign weapons while sharing expertise with allies.
