Yerevan aims for peace agreement with Baku within month Armenian president says
Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan announced that Armenia hopes to finalize a peace agreement with Azerbaijan within the next four weeks.
In a statement to Reuters, Khachaturyan expressed optimism that Azerbaijan would sign the 16 articles of the agreement before the COP29 climate change conference, which is set to take place in Baku from November 11 to 22, Caliber.Az reports.
“If it depended only on us, we would sign it right now, today, but we hope to reach this point sooner or later,” Khachaturyan remarked.
He acknowledged that several articles are still under negotiation with Azerbaijani officials.
Additionally, Khachaturyan indicated that discussions with Türkiye, Azerbaijan's close ally, are progressing positively, particularly regarding the potential opening of the border for third-country nationals and diplomats.
“This will be a signal that real diplomatic relations have become a reality,” he added.
Earlier, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry deemed unacceptable Armenia’s proposal to sign the draft peace agreement while excluding uncoordinated provisions from the text.
“The call of Armenian officials to sign the draft ‘peace agreement,’ excluding unagreed provisions from it, and attempts thereby to leave the existing problems in bilateral relations for a later stage are unacceptable,” stated Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Aykhan Hajizada.
